Motorola Photon 4G ROOT after 2.3.5 update.

screenshot w/ screengrabber

Most people with The new 2.3.5 update have lost ROOT unless they use The Torpedo Root for the Motorola Photon 4G.

Root your Photon with Torpedo Method created by Egdan from Xda-developers.  I followed the modified step by step tutorial from Briefmobile. Make sure to head over to the XDA-Developers forums to thank master developer Edgan for his efforts that rooted this device. See the directions after the break.

  1. The adp package link is broke.. I was just told to get android sdk? Can you reupload/fix the link? I’m having a lot of trouble as the terminal server say’s I do not have permissions when I tried EVERY guide.

    • Hi Tim,
Thank you for pointing out the broken link
here is a link to my drop box. ADB file confirmed working
      http://dl.dropbox.com/u/516330/Android%20stuff/ADB%20Photon/adb-fastboot.zip

Ive used the Windows method to install ADB drivers for other devices which ya can try also.
1: I connected my Photon to the computer then waited for windows to recognize device drivers and install them.
After a window appears for the device. (closed that window)
2: Next I went to Devices & Printers and clicked on my devices where my Photon is shown. There I noticed it had a yellow triangle.
      Right click on there,
      (click on) Select properties,
      (click on) Update driver,
(click on) Search automatically for update driver software (windows will search from your computer and the internet).

  2. The link above for the ADB package does not work but you can find adb.exe in the one click root (OCR) for the Photon (search youtube). The one click root does not work for 2.3.5 but I can confirm this root file along with adb.exe from the older root method works flawlessly. I did not even realize that I lost root weeks ago during the Sprint update. Thanks for the easy instructions.

  3. i m having trouble with the 32bit driver like its not working please fix the link

  4. When I execute photon-torpedo.sh I get the following error.

    $ /data/tmp/photon-torpedo.sh
    /data/tmp/photon-torpedo.sh
ERROR: ld.so: object ‘libpcprofile.so’ cannot be loaded as audit interface: unde
    fined symbol: la_version; ignored.

    Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
    and start again.
